Dr. Saskia Neher received an R01 grant for $1,527,456 from NHLBI
Dr. Saskia Neher received an R01 from the National Heart, Lung, And Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health for $1,527,456 for her project “Lipoprotein Lipase Through the Secretory System” which is funded through November 30, 2026.

Scientists document two separate reservoirs of latent HIV in patients
This research, led by Dr. Ron Swanstrom and colleagues with international collaborators, shows that in addition to HIV’s ability to lay dormant in the blood/lymphoid system, the virus may also lay dormant in the central nervous system, delineating another challenge in creating a cure.

Open Basic Science T32 Postdoctoral Research Positions
Join an established interdisciplinary postdoctoral T32 fellowship program in basic & translational aspects of genetics, molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, pathophysiology & treatment of liver and gastrointestinal tract disorders. Goals are to attract Ph.D., M.D. and DVM postdocts to these fields & provide training in state-of-the-art research techniques. Fellowships are for 2 years, & are funded by NIH (NIDDK) Institutional T32 Training Grant. The deadline for applications is March 15.

Starbird honored for work with postdoc group and beyond (ASBMB)
Chrystal Starbird in July was recognized by the Yale Black Postdoctoral Association, which she co-founded, and the Yale SOM Office of DEI for her leadership, mentorship, and DEI service. She received the YBPA Distinguished Service Award in DEI at a ceremony near campus. In February, she’ll be starting her own lab at UNC.
