text "Shadow A Scientist" two labcoatsWe would like to share that Shadow A Scientist, a graduate student-run organization that plans on-campus science outreach visits for students from underserved communities in NC, has been able to reach over 400 high school students!

On December 9th, Shadow A Scientist hosted an in-person visit. 16 students from Duplin County Health Sciences Academy came to UNC for the day and toured 2 different labs, heard a Path in Science presentation, and ate lunch with scientists. To read more about the visit, check out the summary here.

We would like to highlight the amazing members of the Biochemistry and Biophysics department for doing incredible volunteer work on top of their already productive schedules: Christina So, Ike Emerson, and Amrita Nallathambi. These graduate students each hosted small groups of high school students and gave them tours around their laboratory. Additionally, we also wanted to highlight the Executive Board members from our department, Abigail Ballard and Odessa Goudy.
