Over the years, Dr. Button has climbed the academic ranks at UNC, serving as a Research Associate, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Brian Button was promoted to full professor with tenure effective September 29.

The Society’s Fellows Committee has named Dr. Gary Pielak a 2024 Fellow of the Biophysical Society for his scholarly and extensive biophysical studies on protein structure and dynamic, both in vitro and inside cells, with a particular emphasis on crowding.

The UNC RNA Discovery Center has awarded three fellowship grants to support innovative research investigating various roles of RNA in health and disease. Two out of the three fellowships were awarded to members of the BCBP department. The Collaborative Team Science Fellowship goes to Qi Zhang, PhD, Joshua Boyer, PhD, and Ron Swanstrom, PhD. James Emerson was awarded the Marzluff Graduate Fellowship.
