Jimmy Fay successfully defended his thesis on July 20th, 2022, titled, “The Nanoformulation of Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor and Reformulation with PEG-free Polymers”. The work was completed under the direction of Alexander V. Kabanov.

Five trainees in the Molecular and Cellular Biophysics Program received the Barry Lentz Travel Award this spring. The award provides financial support to students who are traveling to a conference to present research.

The first inaugural UNC Biophysics Field Day, an afternoon of friendly competition to foster community among the Molecular and Cellular Biophysics students & faculty, was a huge success! Biophysics cohorts & faculty faced off in several rounds of science-themed challenges. Thank you to all of the organizers & participants: Amelia McCue, Odessa Goudy, Gage Leighton, Nick Randolph, Emily Beard, Xavier Bonner, and to Holly Shepherd, Wolfgang Bergmeier, Jill Dowen, Brian Strahl, & Steven Torchio.

Viet Vu is a rising senior undergrad at Harvard University studying Computational Biology and is currently participating in this summer's Rosetta Commons Research Experience for Undergraduates program, which is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Dalia Fleifel, a third-year Ph.D. candidate, and Brandon Mouery, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Cook lab presented their research work in a poster presentation at the 86th Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Symposium on Quantitative Biology entitled: " Genome Stability and Integrity" in June 2022.

Brandon Mouery, a GMB PhD candidate in Jean Cook’s lab, was awarded the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Predoctoral Fellowship (F31) on June 3, 2022 from the National Cancer Institute.
