Broadband Light Therapy (BBL)
What is BroadBand Light?
BroadBand Light (BBL), also known as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or photo rejuvenation, delivers broad-spectrum visible and infrared light energy into the skin to regenerate skin cells and improve skin health. BBL is not a laser treatment. The treatment takes about 15 minutes.
At the UNC Center for Facial Aesthetics, we treat the following conditions with BBL:
- Acne and Acne Scars
- Brown Spots / Uneven Pigment
- Fine Lines, Wrinkles, Skin Texture
- Preventative Skin Health
- Rosacea / Redness
- Surgical / Traumatic Scars
BBL is used on lighter skin types, however, it can be used on darker skin in specific cases.
How many BroadBand Light treatments do I need?
The number of treatments necessary for achieving the desired outcome will vary depending upon the concerns being treated. To treat brown spots, we typically recommend a series of three to four treatments spaced four weeks apart. If a patient is being treated for redness, such as rosacea, we typically suggest ongoing treatments to aide in managing the condition. If the BBL treatment is for acne, six to eight treatments are recommended, spaced one to two weeks apart. Your aesthetician will discuss your condition and recommended treatment plan with you at your initial consultation visit.
How long will BroadBand Light (BBL) results last?
Results from BBL are best maintained when incorporating good skin care regimen and limiting sun exposure. During your in-depth consultation, we will discuss how to care for your skin before, during, and after your treatment to ensure that best results are achieved. Investing in the health of your skin includes using quality skincare, avoiding peak hour sun exposure, and following good lifestyle choices.
What areas of the body can be treated with BroadBand Light?
BBL treatment is often used on the face, but can also be used on other areas of the body, including hands, neck, and chest.
