The Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Qian-Zhou (Jojo) Yang, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology, as Division Chief for Child Neurology.
Dr. Yang steps into this role with a strong foundation in child neurology and epilepsy care, having served in the Divisions of Epilepsy and Child Neurology since 2020. She currently directs the Inpatient Pediatric Neurology Services and serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at UNC Children’s Hospital. Her dedication to clinical excellence, education, and health care accessibility has made her a vital member of the UNC Neurology community.
Dr. Yang completed her medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by pediatric and child neurology residencies and a pediatric epilepsy fellowship at Stanford University. Her clinical and research interests focus on pediatric epilepsy, with a particular emphasis on improving access to epilepsy surgery. She is a site principal investigator for multiple national studies and an active contributor to the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium and the Epilepsy from Childbearing Ages through Menopause Consortium.
A nationally recognized educator, Dr. Yang serves as Vice Chair of the American Epilepsy Society’s Assessment and Examination Committee and Associate Program Director of the UNC Epilepsy Fellowship. Her commitment to mentorship and innovative teaching has earned her numerous accolades, including the UNC Neurology Faculty Teaching Award and participation in the Leadership in Academic Medicine Program.
