Celebrating Excellence in Community Health
The Community Health and Engagement (CHE) program has recognized outstanding contributions to healthcare access and community partnership with its 2024 awards. Among the honorees are Drs. Clio Rubinos, Thiri Lin, and Joel Callahan, who received the Community Health Impact Award in the Clinic & Practice Impact (Team) category. Joining them, Dr. Nina Browner was honored with the Physician Leadership in Advancing Access to Care Award.
These awards celebrate exceptional efforts to expand access to care, strengthen community partnerships, and improve health outcomes. The recognition of Drs. Rubinos, Lin, and Callahan highlights a collaborative initiative rooted in the Department of Neurology and supported by the Community Partnership Committee. It was this committee that brought Drs. Rubinos and Callahan together to implement a critical care protocol at Pardee Hospital.
The team’s project centered on a status epilepticus order set—a clinical tool originally developed by Dr. Rubinos for use at UNC Hospitals. Through close collaboration with Dr. Callahan, the protocol was successfully adapted and implemented at Pardee, enhancing emergency neurological care in the region.
These achievements underscore the power of interdisciplinary teamwork and the impact of thoughtful, community-driven healthcare innovation.
