Kurt Nolen is an award-winning filmmaker who built a career in the Los Angeles motion picture industry as a cinematographer and Steadicam operator. Following ten years in his first career as a studio musician, Kurt obtained a degree in Broadcasting and Cinema with a concentration in cinematography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and continued on to do post-baccalaureate studies in experimental film at Duke University.
Eventually redirecting his career to higher education marketing at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington in order to spend more time with his family, he ultimately relocated back to the Research Triangle area to work as a technical videographer and photographer for a prototyping facility specializing in advanced mechanical engineering.
Kurt is an active member of the Society of Camera Operators and brings a unique skillset in motion imaging, commercial & technical photography, and marketing to UNC. When he’s not scrutinizing his light meter or operating a camera of some kind, he enjoys cooking, traditional recurve archery, and hiking with his two sons.
