Thank you for your interest in the UNC Neurosurgery Residency Training program. Our program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Residency training lasts for seven years and we accept two residents per year.
The UNC Neurosurgery Department is committed to training residents with the following goals in mind:
- Prepare future neurosurgeons who are well-rounded in all of the major neurosurgical subspecialty areas and are capable of independent neurosurgical practice.
- Train future independent practitioners who are prepared for the evolving complexities of our healthcare system.
- Prepare trainees so that upon graduation, they accept positions that are the very best opportunities for their desired career paths.
- Maintain an atmosphere in which learning and education are highly valued, and in which each team member–from the medical student to the chief resident to the most senior faculty–shares a vision of a team working together to provide the very best outcomes for our patients.
