Dr. Scott W. Elton joined the Department of Neurosurgery in January 2013, to develop the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery where he now serves as Division Chief and Director. He completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh, where he developed an initial interest in pediatric neurosurgery. Following medical school, he trained in neurosurgery at Ohio State University with 14 months of his training spent in pediatric neurosurgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He spent an additional 12 months at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama during his fellowship.

Dr. Elton has worked in both community and academic hospitals in a wide variety of practices–private, academic, and corporate–in both Ohio and Arizona. He began and developed a practice of pediatric neurosurgery at the Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona which quickly grew to three pediatric neurosurgeons serving the entire state within four years. Along with numerous clinical pursuits, Dr. Elton is interested in teaching residents and medical students, evaluating cost containment, and creating pragmatism in care.

Outside of UNC, Dr. Elton enjoys spending time with his family, and taking scuba diving and sailing trips.
