Congratulations, Maureen Kohi, MD, Ernest H. Wood Distinguished Professor and Chair of the UNC Department of Radiology. Dr. Kohi was awarded the Tom Dorsey Gold Medal—by the Western Angiographic and Interventional Society (WAIS) in recognition of her lifelong contribution to Interventional Radiology.

Maureen Kohi outside Cancer HospitalThe Western Angiographic & Interventional Society was founded to provide a forum to share new ideas and to learn from each other’s successes, failures, and innovative techniques. Many of the founders were pioneers who made valuable contributions toward improving patient care by developing new techniques to treat disease. Others published research findings or worked with engineers to design new catheters and implantable devices, ultimately creating a new industry where minimally invasive procedures provided alternative treatments to peripheral vascular disease, aneurysms, cancer, stroke, and many other vascular and non-vascular conditions.

Tom Dorsey medalThe Tom Dorsey Gold Medal was established in 1996 to honor and acknowledge the lifelong Interventional Radiology contributions of Dr. Thomas Dorsey.
