It is known that the three-dimensional organization of the genome within the nucleus is important for proper gene expression and ultimately development. The mechanisms behind this organization, however, are not yet fully understood. Recently, the lab of Jill Dowen, PhD, published a study in Epigenetics & Chromatin solving a piece of this complex puzzle.

Effective Wednesday, August 19, all undergraduate in-person instruction will shift to remote learning. Courses in our graduate, professional and health affairs schools will continue to be taught as they are, or as directed by the schools. Academic advising and academic support services will be available online. Our research enterprise will remain unchanged.

Liu lab received a NCI R01 grant to investigate novel function of cGAS in modulating breast cancer pathology. This five year grant will enable Liu lab to continue their current journey in investigation roles of innate immunity signaling in cancer.

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has awarded a five-year, $3.78 million grant to a team of UNC researchers to study to whether experimental tumor and blood tests can accurately detect HPV-linked head and neck cancer, predict if the cancer will respond to treatment, and identify which cancer will recur.
