On Saturday May 15, 2021, Mary Sue Coleman (’69 Ph.D.), Carolina alumna and former president of the Association of American Universities (AAU) addressed the participants at The Graduate School’s 2021 Virtual Doctoral Hooding celebration.
The Hooding event celebrated the achievements of individuals who earned their doctorates between August 2019 and May 2021.

In her speech she drew comparisons between the 1960s and the 2020s in terms of calls for equity, justice, and notable advances in science, technology, and the humanities.
