Nazli Deger PhD

Nazli Deger successfully defended her dissertation under the direction of Dr. Aziz Sancar on January 12th, 2022 and she has received her PhD. The title of her dissertation is “Nucleotide Excision Repair Map of Drosophila Melanogaster at a Single Nucleotide Resolution”.

Nazli received her B.S. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey in 2016. She completed her M.S. in Molecular Biology and Genetics in the same university in 2018. During her masters, she began her research career in Dr. Isik Yulug’s lab where she worked to identify a possible biomarker for breast cancer.

Nazli was awarded a grant by the Turkish Fulbright Commission to perform her PhD studies in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She joined the Biology Department under the Quantitative Biology Graduate Track in 2018. Her PhD project aimed to characterize nucleotide excision repair mechanism in Drosophila Melanogaster.

After graduation, Nazli will work in a postdoctoral position in academia.
