Odessa is involved in a variety of science outreach and science communication opportunities at UNC and is excited to be part of an ongoing effort to increase science communication to people of all ages and backgrounds, with the hopes of encouraging others to learn more about research. Please cheer on Odessa virtually on Wednesday night.

Odessa’s presentation title is “From Computer Models to Cancer Drugs: Creating Inhibitor Proteins to Combat Cancer.”

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills. Participants had just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.

3MT was developed by The University of Queensland in 2008 and is now held in more than 600 universities in 65 countries around the world.

Master’s and Doctoral students enrolled at UNC from any discipline administered by The Graduate School were welcome to register and participate in the competition. All are welcome to serve as audience members throughout the competition.

  • First place will receive $1000 and participate in regional 3MT competitions to represent UNC Chapel Hill (TBD)
  • Second place will receive $600
  • People’s Choice will receive $400
