On May 19th, we celebrated the end of a successful year of student seminars with a departmental hosted lunch and award event for all our graduate students.
Congratulations to all our student seminar presentation awardees!
The BCBP department student seminar series is a student-created initiative that began in 2019 to help students across the department learn more about the research their peers are conducting while offering everyone the chance to refine their presentation skills amongst peers.
This year’s student seminar series was again revamped by graduate students Odessa Goudy, Rodney Park, Amelia McCue, Uriel Jean-Baptiste, Christopher Shelby, Darex Rodriguez, Kacey Davis, and Sierra Cole. Each co-organizer hosted one student seminar throughout the year and thought of ideas to increase student participation and engagement.
To support each other academically and recognize the effort it takes to create great presentations, all seminar presenters were eligible for peer-nominated presentation awards across a variety of categories.
An award ceremony was hosted outside on the GMB Lawn with lunch catered by Carrburritos. Awardees were introduced by one of the peers that nominated them for the award and received a certificate of achievement from the department. At the end of the award ceremony, UNC swag (such as UNC baseball caps, glasses, car decals, notebooks, etc) was raffled off to those in attendance.
