The Department ranks fourth among all Biochemistry departments in the US, (both public and private institutions not just public) in 2017.
We received over $18.8 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2017.
According to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), this ranks us fourth among all Biochemistry departments and the 2nd highest NIH funded biochemistry program at a public university. We are proud of our faculty for their hard work and accomplishments! Of special note is that Ronald Swanstrom ranked tenth among all principal investigators in Biochemistry for total NIH dollars.
