We received over $18.6 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2019. According to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), this ranks us fifth among all Biochemistry departments and the 3rd highest among public institutions. Of note, seven of our faculty (Ronald Swanstrom, Aziz Sancar, Dale A. Ramsden, Jean G. Cook, Brian A. Kuhlman, Bill F. Marzluff, and Wolfgang Bergmeier) ranked in the top 121 of most highly funded NIH investigators in 2019 of most highly funded NIH investigators for Biochemistry. Of special note is that Ronald Swanstrom ranked 4th among all principal investigators in Biochemistry for total NIH dollars.

We are proud of our faculty for their hard work and accomplishments!
