Two postdocs Drs. Siyuan Su and Jianfeng Chen and a BBSP graduate student Ying Wang in Pengda Liu Lab led this study during the pandemic. Lilly Wong from Guochun Jiang Lab plays a major role in in-vitro infection models.

Congratulations to graduate student, Natalie Tanke, in collaboration with The Cook Lab. She is the recipient of F31 predoctoral fellowship award from NIH NHLBI the leading NIH institute on heart, lung, blood, & sleep disorders research. Crilly said she chose to attend UNC-Chapel Hill because of its reputation as a research institution. At Carolina, she studies under Gary Pielak, a Kenan Distinguished Professor, and is a part of his research group. “When I got to UNC, I wanted to mentor people, and mentorship is a big part of his lab,” Dr. Pielak holds a joint appointment at the UNC School of Medicine in Biochemistry and Biophysics.

Research contributing to discoveries associated with COVID-19 has been growing on the UNC campus over the past year. To help increase visibility of this integral research and illustrate the extensive organizational collaborations that help move UNC research forward, a team from University Libraries – Health Sciences Library analyzed the COVID-19 research output of UNC Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) researchers between January 2020 and April 2021.
