BCBP Community Members,

The BCBP Department echoes the sentiments expressed by Dr. Wesley Burks earlier today (below).  Today’s Supreme Court decision overturns Roe V. Wade, thus removing a federal constitutional right to abortion.  While our community members may have different viewpoints on this issue, it has wide-reaching implications for many.  We are here to listen and provide support if you would like to talk.

If you are in need of emotional support, remember that the care.unc.edu website is good way to find resources and information available to students/postdocs/staff/faculty, as well as UNC Health’s Well-Being Program.

Today’s Supreme Court decision has wide-reaching implications for healthcare providers around the country. Like many of you, we are working to fully understand the impacts of the ruling and what it means for the patients we serve.

Abortion remains legal under North Carolina state law. UNC Health will continue to comply with the law and offer our patients access to a range of reproductive healthcare services. While we cannot predict what future laws in North Carolina may look like, we must continue to follow all federal, state, and local laws, while putting health and well-being of our patients first.

We recognize this subject is deeply personal and many have different viewpoints. However, we also believe all patients and families deserve our commitment to advance the health of North Carolinians through compassionate and personalized care. Please check in with each other and know that wellness resources are available for you whenever you need them through UNC Health’s Well-Being Program.
