UNC Neurology is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Matthew Sharrock from Clinical Assistant Professor to Clinical Associate Professor based on excellence in clinical activity.

Dr. Sharrock’s work focuses on neurocritical care, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, acute ischemic stroke, neurogenetic shock, and acute neuromuscular weakness. Additionally, Dr. Sharrock serves as the Director of the NSICU Neuromonitoring Unit. Beyond his clinical activities, Dr. Sharrock also acts as an active and engaged educator who is consistently praised for his teaching abilities and his commitment to teaching trainees, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Sharrock earned Bachelor of Science in 2007 from Andrews University and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2013. Next, Dr. Sharrock completed an internship in Internal Medicine at University of Kansas Medical Center in 2014, a residency in Neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2017, and finally a fellowship in Neurocritical Care from Johns Hopkins University in 2019. He became an Assistant Professor on the fixed-term track in the Department of Neurology at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2019.
