This event featured the research of our faculty, fellows, residents, postdocs, medical students, and graduate trainees.

Rahmi Oklu graduated from Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, England.  After completing his medical degree at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, he completed his surgery and radiology training at the Columbia University NY Presbyterian Hospital.  Following his fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, he remained on staff reaching the rank of Assistant Professor. After 5 years at MGH, he was recruited by the Mayo Clinic.  Within the next two years at the Mayo Clinic, he reached the rank of Professor and became the Chair of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.  He is the founding director of the Laboratory for Patient-Inspired Engineering, which is currently funded by multiple National Institutes of Health R01 grants and was recently named as a Clinician Investigator by the Mayo Clinic, which is a prestigious physician scientist title that provides substantial research funding annually.  He has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications including Science and Nature journals, as well as Advanced Materials and was inducted to the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2023.  He was the Founder, Board Member and Chief Medical Officer of Obsidio, Inc., which received FDA approval in July, 2022 and was acquired by Boston Scientific in August, 2022. Dr. Oklu is also the Founder, Board Member and Chief Medical Officer of InTumo Therapeutics Inc., which recently completed human trials for the percutaneous treatment of solid tumors. Dr. Oklu is the associate editor of ACSNano and is on the editorial board of Advanced Materials; he reviews regularly for the NIH, including BTSS and IGIS study sections, and the DOD. He spends half his time as a clinician focused on minimally invasive oncologic and vascular interventions at the Mayo Clinic and half his time in the laboratory leading a large team of students, researchers, post-doctoral fellows and faculty.
