The UNC PROMISE study (Peer group Research On Mentoring underrepresented Scientists) is one of only 11 sites nationally to have been funded by the NIH (NIH-U01-GM132374) to conduct rigorous controlled research to identify best practices for mentoring those racially/ethnically underrepresented in the biomedical workforce.

Selection as a Fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is an honor bestowed on our most distinguished members. Fellows are recognized for their meritorious efforts to advance the molecular life sciences through sustained outstanding accomplishments in areas such as scientific research, education, mentorship, commitment to diversity and service to the society and scientific community.

Dr. Meissner died on May 1, 2021 and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. Wilson, and sons Eric G. Meissner and Geoffrey W. Meissner. There will be a graveside memorial gathering arranged by Walker's Funeral Home at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, HWY 15-501 & Legion Road on May 8th at 10 a.m.

The Diversity award is given annually in recognition of those who have given their time and effort to further diversity, equity and inclusion at Carolina and in our surrounding community.
