BCBP graduate student, Dalia Fleifel, Receives a Prestigious Predoctoral Fellowship From American Heart Association (AHA)

Congratulations to Dalia Fleifel, a graduate research assistant in Dr. Jean Cook’s lab for recently receiving a prestigious predoctoral fellowship from AHA!

The project title is: Angiogenesis regulation by c-Myc-mediated endothelial cell proliferation.

Project details: c-Myc is a known driver for cellular proliferation and a central player in angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels. However, how c-Myc drives the cellular proliferation, which is the initial step in angiogenesis, is poorly studied. Dalia aims to identify how c-Myc drives the cell division cycle using single cell flow cytometey and other biochemical techniques. Deciphering how c-Myc drives the cell division cycle will answer an outstanding question and will help us better understand how angiogenesis initiates in normal and disease conditions.

This is a predoctoral fellowship for two years beginning January 2023 through January 2025.

The AHA Predoctoral Fellowship Program is designed to help students initiate careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular health by providing research assistance and training.
