Kiara KC CooperHello everyone! My name is Kiara, but I go by KC. I’m originally from Raleigh, NC.I’m thrilled to join the Jenson Lab as a Research Technician. In this role, I will be assisting Dr. Jenson with experiments focused on cGAS-like enzymes in prokaryotes and their role in anti-phage defense.

I recently graduated from NC State with a degree in Genetics and a minor in Microbiology. During my time at NC State, I had the opportunity to work under Dr. Casey Theriot, where I investigated how certain members of the gut microbiome might modulate or inhibit the virulence of Clostridium difficile infections.

Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, attending various sporting events and discovering great food around the Triangle. I’m excited to be here and look forward to learning more about biochemistry-related research at UNC!
