Dr. Melissa Johnson, UNC Neurology stroke fellow, was invited to present at the 2023 International Stroke Conference for the Trainee Case Discussions Invited Speakers Symposium. Dr. Johnson discussed a complex case of a pediatric patient with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis who failed medical management and underwent successful venous sinus mechanical thrombectomy. She highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach at comprehensive stroke centers for these complex patients.
Dr. Johnson also presented a poster at the 2023 International Stroke Conference highlighting the importance of considering mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke even in patients with a higher baseline modified Rankin scale. This was accepted as an abstract, and the manuscript is in preparation for publication.
