The UNC Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) works in partnership with investigators to effectively manage the identification, evaluation, protection, translation and commercialization of impactful inventions and technologies. On April 25, 2023, OTC awarded Dr. Todd Cohen’s lab a Technology Commercialization Grant.
Cohen explains, “We will be using this support from the Office of Technology Commercialization to advance gene therapies to target ALS patients. We hope to deliver protective genes directly to the degenerating neurons in ALS patients and thereby clear the toxic clumps of protein aggregates that are thought to kill brain cells. In this way, we will foster the generation of a completely novel suite of viruses that could be used to alleviate motor neuron disease symptoms.”
