Faculty and staff from UNC Health’s Department of Neurosurgery participated in the 2024 NC Triangle Head for the Cure Race in Southern Village over the weekend. NC Triangle Head for the Cure 5K

UNC Neurosurgery participates in the annual Head for the Cure 5K event every year. Funds raised during the race directly benefit brain cancer research at UNC Health. This year saw a record number or participants and raised the highest amount of funds.

Neuro oncologist Dr. Yasmeen Rauf organized a team and participated in the event alongside faculty and brain tumor patients at UNC Health. Neurosurgical oncologist Dr. Dominique Higgins also participated in the event and spoke briefly on the importance of brain cancer research. Dr. Higgins and Dr. Rauf are currently running multiple brain tumor clinical trials at UNC Health with hopes of finding cures for aggressive and malignant brain tumors, including glioblastoma. The current life expectancy for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma is less than 5 years and the standard of care remains unchanged since 2005.

NC Triangle Head for the Cure 5K
