Rotation Procedures for Visiting PA Students

  • All Visiting PA Student clinical requests, placements, contracts, compliance and on boarding MUST be coordinated through the APP Center.

  • Visiting PA students MUST follow the APP Center Student Rotation Procedures detailed on this website to be considered for an elective clinical rotation at UNC Hospitals.  Visiting PA students CANNOT complete CORE rotations at UNC Hospitals.

  • Participation in a Visiting PA student elective rotation  requires completion of the Visiting PA student elective rotation request application via the APP Center website.  Please note that all requests for Visiting PA student rotations MUST originate from the Visiting PA program clinical faculty/staff in order to ensure that the rotation has been approved by the Visiting PA program.

UNC Hospitals Sites ONLY include UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus, as well as all UNC SOM clinics.

UNC Rex, Chatham Hospital and UNCPN are NOT part of UNC-Hospitals/SOM clinic locations where the APP Center places students.  Schools need to contact those UNC Health sites separately as they are separate entities and have their own student placement processes.

APP Center Preceptors:  Advance practice providers (NPs, PAs, CNMs, CAAs, CRNAs) who have been employed by UNC-Hospitals/SOM Clinics for at least 6 months.  It is important to note that Physicians are not APPs and are not in the pool of APP Center Preceptors.  While Physicians are out of scope for the APP Center to actively place students, an APP student who is precepted by a Physician MUST be on boarded by the APP Center.
