Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, The UNC School of Medicine research funding increased by more than $24 million during fiscal year 2020.

Keean Braceros, a graduate student in Mauro Calabrese’s lab was awarded the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship (Parent F31) on July 17, 2020.

Dr. Oztas will join the faculty in Koc University in September 2020. In his own lab, he will pursue two main research programs: the maintenance of genome stability in plants under DNA-damaging environmental stress and the symbiotic interaction between plants and microbes. The Department ranks fifth among all Biochemistry departments in the US, (both public and private institutions not just public) in 2019. We received over $18.6 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2019.
