Welcome to the website for the Division of Neuroradiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! We are pleased that you are looking to embark on the adventure of Neuroradiology and hope that the information contained herein is helpful to you.
UNC has a long Neuroradiology tradition expanding nearly 50 years. Dr. Ernest Wood, one of the "fathers" of modern Neuroradiology, was our first Chair and Dr. James Scatliff, the second one. Dr. Castillo has been Division Chief for over 22 years. Dr. Castillo is Editor Emeritus of the American Journal of Neuroradiology, Past President of the American Society of Neuroradiology and President of the American Roentgen Ray Society.
Neuroradiology counts with full-time 6 attendings and four 1st year fellows and one 2nd year fellow. Interventional Neuroradiology has 3 attendings. Last year, we performed over 46,000 diagnostic studies at our hospital and interpreted about 5000 spine studies performed at affiliated practices. Most work is done at the main Hospital campus, but also at our new outpatient facility and community hospital in the town of Hillsborough.
All of our fellows have obtained positions in very desirable jobs in the area or elsewhere and all have passed their CAQ examinations. We have now trained nearly 150 fellows and many chose to remain in academics.
