Welcome Dr. Yasemin Kübra Akyel Visiting Scientist to the Sancar lab and our department
Medipol University's faculty member Dr. Yasemin Kübra Akyel started to work in the laboratory and supervision of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar in December 2022. Akyel works in the fields of 'DNA Repair' and 'Circadian Rhythm' and has a fellowship from TÜBİTAK

Grad student Edgar Faison in Zhang lab published RNA research in Biomolecules
Grad student Edgar Faison and Zhang lab collaborated with Dr. Ramamoorthy's group at the University of Michigan to use polymer nanodiscs as a novel alignment medium for measuring residual dipolar couplings on RNA.

Congruent with Carolina’s research pipeline that is focused heavily on biomedical endeavors, the majority of its licenses are in the life sciences sector. 36 % of licenses were related to tangible property (research tools, including mice, cell lines, and antibodies). Our department gathered to celebrate Marsha Lynn Ray at her retirement party on Dec. 16, 2022
On December 16th, people from all over campus came by to wish Lynn off to a wonderful start to her retirement, including members from our department, her peers from other units, retired faculty, and facilities members. We shared treats, cupcakes, and laughter!

NIH has issued the Data Management and Sharing (DMS) policy, which will go into effect on January 25
The NIH has issued the Data Management and Sharing (DMS) policy, which will go into effect on January 25, 2023. Under the DMS policy, the NIH expects that investigators and institutions will (i) plan and budget for the managing and sharing of data; (ii) submit a DMS plan for review when applying for funding; and (iii) comply with the approved DMS plan. In order to support SOM researchers as they prepare for this, the Office of Research is offering a series of webinars to guide you in this new process.
