Join an established interdisciplinary postdoctoral T32 fellowship program in basic and translational aspects of genetics, molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, pathophysiology and treatment of liver and gastrointestinal tract disorders. Program goals are to attract Ph.D., M.D. and DVM postdoctoral trainees to these fields and to provide training in state-of-the-art research techniques. Fellowships are for two years, and are funded by an NIH (NIDDK) Institutional T32 Training Grant.

Our DEI committee held Arabic culture night on the evening of November 17 that was open to all. Students shared their food and culture with other department members. Darex Vera-Rodríguez, Odessa Goudy, and Kiara Thompson all recently attended the annual Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico where scientists from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM meet to share scientific contributions and network with colleagues across the country.

The UNC School of Medicine has received the 2022 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The School of Medicine was recognized for its robust DEI infrastructure across campus, numerous efforts designed to provide education and training opportunities for the next generation of doctors, basic science researchers, health scientist, and rural initiatives that improve access to care for all North Carolinians.

The Graduate School’s Diversity and Student Success program, which hosted a summit titled Surviving and Thriving: Narratives from graduate students of color in early April, is hosting several pop-up exhibits in departments and units at UNC-Chapel Hill during the fall 2022 semester. The inaugural Surviving and Thriving Summit, explored anonymous stories from graduate students of color through interactive story boards and a performance piece, and culminated in a facilitated discussion.
