Dr. Audrea Caesar is the inaugural Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer for UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine, where she promotes health equity and inclusion across our system. She is an Adjunct Professor in the UNC School of Government, teaching courses in the Master of Public Administration program, and an Assistant Research Professor in the UNC School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine. She was named the 2023 DEI Leader in Healthcare by the Triangle Business Journal and also named on the 2023 Becker’s Hospital Review list of top Healthcare DEI Leaders to Know.

Dr. Caesar created and proudly leads a systemwide strategy to foster a culture of equity that centers on teammates, patients, learners and the community.  Her launch of a systemwide framework creates a roadmap to a more inclusive organization that aims to decrease inequities that lead to disparities.

She grew up in public health and her professional experiences have allowed her to touch every social determinant of health; from healthcare and education to housing, economic development, and social and community context. Her advocacy and community engagement leads others to not only help us understand the issues, but partner with us to find solutions.

Dr. Caesar is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and a Senior Certified Human Resources Professional (SHRM-SCP) who specializes in Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Health Equity.
