Wimmer supports executive and internal communications for the UNC School of Medicine, supports the school’s network of communicators, and collaborates with UNC Health on aligning communications across research, education and patient care missions.
She has more than 15 years of experience in communications, previously working for UNC-Chapel Hill University Communications as a University spokesperson and advisor to UNC-Chapel Hill executives on communications strategy. She earned the office’s Above & Beyond Award in 2020 for her leadership in pandemic response efforts.
Prior to her time at Carolina, Wimmer worked at Arizona State University with a focus on aligning communications strategy between the university’s Office of the President and the ASU Knowledge Enterprise and at the University of North Texas where she focused on research communication strategy and issues management.
Before her work in higher education, she was a newspaper reporter in Texas. Wimmer is from West Virginia and enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking and visiting science museums.
