For all students

  • Students meet annually with each member of their thesis committee. Thesis committees are composed of five faculty members with expertise in the proposed research area, at least three of whom must have primary affiliations in Pharmacology. Students may select professors outside of PHCO to serve on their committee. If less than three professors have primary affiliations in PHCO, the student must request a formal exemption from the Graduate School through the DGS.
  • Meetings must occur on a yearly basis, as mandated by the graduate school.
  • After each annual committee meeting (but not the final public thesis defense), this form must be completed, signed, and sent to Christy Aaron (PHCO_graduate@med.unc.edu).

Tips on sending out a poll:

  1. Send the poll out as soon as possible so your attendees’ schedules won’t get filled up. Two to three months in advance is our usual recommendation.
  2. Give the attendees 3-7 days (depending on your timeline) to fill out the poll, and as soon as it closes, make sure to book their calendar so that you don’t have something come up on their schedule during your planned time.
  3. Only give the attendees no more than 10-15 options and try to pick different days and times
