Welcome to the website for the Division of Neuroradiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! We are pleased that you are looking to embark on the adventure of Neuroradiology and hope that the information contained herein is helpful to you.
UNC has a long Neuroradiology tradition expanding nearly 50 years. Dr. Ernest Wood was our first Chair and Dr. James Scatliff, the second one. Dr. Castillo has been Division Chief for over 20 years. Dr. Castillo is Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Neuroradiology, Past President of the American Society of Neuroradiology and Vice President of the American Roentgen Ray Society.
Neuroradiology counts with 5 attendings and 4 fellows. Interventional Neuroradiology has 2 attendings. Last year, we performed over 40,000 studies at our hospital and interpreted about 5000 spine studies performed at affiliated practices. Most work is done at the main Hospital campus, but also at our new outpatient facility.
In 2014, our trainees and faculty presented 25 different projects at the annual meeting of ASNR. All of our fellows have obtained positions in very desirable jobs in the area or elsewhere and all have passed their CAQ examinations. We have now trained over 120 fellows and many chose to remain in academics.
