Novant Health, UNC School of Medicine, and UNC Health (Novant-UNC Affiliation) are launching a new Request for Applications (RFA) to fund the planning and design of a Geriatrics Center of Excellence (GCOE) in Wilmington, NC. This initiative stems from our 25-year academic and clinical Affiliation and reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to high-quality care, research, and education in Southeast North Carolina.

The GCOE will become a regional hub for consultative geriatric care, community partnerships, and interprofessional training. It will serve older adults across the region and train the next generation of geriatrics-focused providers. The selected team will receive up to $200,000 in planning funds.

We invite multidisciplinary internal teams from Novant Health, UNC School of Medicine, and UNC Health to apply. Strong proposals will demonstrate collaboration across institutions and specialties and may include partnerships with local organizations such as UNC-Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College.

This opportunity reinvests unspent affiliation funds into bold, high-impact ideas that align with our shared goals: improving health outcomes, expanding access to care, and building a stronger regional health workforce.

Key Deadlines:

  • Two-page concept proposals due: August 15, 2025
  • Preliminary business plans due: December 15, 2025
  • Final award announcement: January 2026
