Pathways Program
Purpose:
To prepare potential leaders for success by building a solid foundation in an environment where they feel connected, cared for, and have a strong cultural identity with the SOM.
About:
- Monthly sessions, Onsite, 2nd Thursday of the month, 8-11am; Eight sessions, Sept-April
- 8-8:30 Preview with Director, recap prior session & set the tone for the day
- 8:30-10:30 Development topic content, including: Self-Assessment (5 Dynamics, Relational Leadership); Leading a team, from peer to leader; Basic Academic Healthcare Finance, reporting; Storytelling; Bias in decisions, and in our three missions; Communication and Presentation Skills: Time Management and delegation; Quality Mindset and Process Improvement
- 10:30-11 Debrief with a leader: how to apply concepts
- In addition:
- Book review and team presentation to the group
- Throughout: at least three meetings with an assigned mentor
- Career Counseling session
- Application Process SOM-wide/Criteria include:
- Must be a full-time permanent employee of the School of Medicine, for at least one year
- Must have no more than one year in a leadership position managing others, if currently in a supervisory role
- Must regularly exceed expectations on performance reviews
- Must be a valuable team member with leadership potential
- Is likely to be actively engaged in group sessions, to add valuable perspective as a cohort member
- Must be able to attend eight monthly sessions onsite, with 100% attendance (8-11 am on 2nd Thursday, Sept – April)

- Nomination period is typically open sometime from late April into late May
