We’re pleased to share that Dr. Lynne Fiscus has been named chief statewide clinical and academic integration officer. In this position, Dr. Fiscus will be a key physician leader to partner with our statewide hospital leadership and be jointly accountable for advancing statewide clinical collaboration and alignment. Hiring this position is an important next step on our journey toward leveraging the value of becoming a fully integrated health system; and Lynne’s position is pivotal in helping us achieve our goals.
Lynne will also be accountable for the advancement of educational programs across the statewide network, including the development and implementation of a strategy for statewide GME and advancing workforce development. She will work to advance UNC Health’s research mission by collaborating with UNC Clinical Research Partners to ensure our statewide hospitals are research-ready and able to bring clinical trials to patients across North Carolina.
Lynne graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology. She attended UNC-Chapel Hill for medical school and a combined internal medicine & pediatrics residency. She served as an internal medicine chief resident. She then spent 10 years in Minnesota, first at Fairview Health, a large community health system and then at the University of Minnesota where she served as Executive Medical Director for Ambulatory Clincs.
In 2017, she returned to North Carolina to become the inaugural Chief Value Officer for UNC Physicians Network. She was selected president and CEO of UNCPN in 2020 and significantly contributed to the ambulatory UNC Health COVID response throughout North Carolina.
Under her leadership at UNCPN, the organization has grown significantly, tripling in size and transforming from a largely Triangle based primary care network to a statewide entity with half of its clinicians in inpatient or specialty roles. Lynne and team led the integration of Wayne, Lenoir, Rockingham, and Caldwell Physician groups into the UNC Physicians umbrella and have been recognized nationally for the patient experience work the UNCPN team leads in onboarding new clinics into Carolina Care. New inpatient programs developed with her guidance now serve multiple statewide hospitals and are leading to increased quality and throughput while reducing unnecessary outmigration.
UNCPN has also advanced educational missions under her leadership with dramatically increasing the number of learners in UNCPN clinics. Similarly, a research integration program within UNCPN was developed and implemented which has increased the number of clinical trials and other research opportunities available at UNCPN clinics across North Carolina. During Hurricane Helene, Lynne served as the clinical leader accountable for support for UNC Health, working alongside Tammy Scarborough and Lorie Rhine.
