David Fleischman, MD, will serve as the interim chair of the Department of Ophthalmology beginning Nov. 1.
Dr. Fleischman is the Sterling A. Barrett Distinguished Associate Professor and vice chair in the Department of Ophthalmology, and he serves as the director for the glaucoma fellowships and ocular trauma. He also is the perioperative medical director at UNC Hillsborough. Dr. Fleischman’s work focuses on the science behind the medical, surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma and cataract.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Fleischman to this interim role and in thanking Don Budenz, MD, MPH, for his service. In April, Dr. Budenz announced his plans to retire from his role as professor and chair of the department.
A search is currently underway for a permanent chair.
