The UNC SOM seeks internal candidates for the positions of: Alumni Affairs Faculty Liaison for the MD Program, and Alumni Affairs Faculty Liaison for Health Sciences.
These two positions serve as crucial members of the UNC School of Medicine Alumni (SOM Alumni) Team, which aims to foster connections and engagement among alumni, faculty, students and friends while securing philanthropic investments to advance the goals, educational impact, and success of the UNC School of Medicine.
These roles are primarily responsible for broadening the reach of the School of Medicine’s alumni outreach efforts by building mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships across UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health departments and divisions and among priority alumni and donor constituencies. The alumni faculty liaison also serves as a voice and champion for alumni activities across the enterprise.
Description of Responsibilities:
- Identify promising opportunities to collaborate across UNC School of Medicine departments and divisions, including possible event partnerships, stories of impact, and points of pride to share with alumni constituencies.
- Represent the interests of the UNC Health Foundation and UNC SOM Alumni team at School and department meetings and functions, updating key leaders and fellow faculty about priority initiatives and helping build awareness of alumni engagement and development goals.
- Provide insight to the current needs of students and faculty at UNC School of Medicine and how alumni and donors can best support those needs.
- Leverage professional networks to help reach team goals related to engagement and fundraising activities.
- Suggest, pilot, and lead emerging engagement alumni-focused initiatives aligned with goals of the SOM Alumni team and UNC School of Medicine.
- Serve in an advisory capacity to alumni groups and boards, including the Medical Alumni Council (MD faculty role), participating in twice-annual board meetings, occasional committee meetings, and leading ad-hoc work groups around topics/initiatives.
- Champion alumni engagement and fundraising activities through occasionally traveling to regional and national events as an alumni faculty speaker, meeting with individual alumni, and lending voice to written communications such as thank you letters, recruitment efforts, and donor solicitation material.
- Promoting SOM Alumni engagement efforts at School and department meetings and functions.
Additional Information:
- These positions will serve at-will for a term of 5 years, with an option for renewal.
- These positions will report to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.
- Candidates for these positions should be an alum of the program they seek to serve. (MD alum defined as graduate of UNC medical school or UNC residency or fellowship training program for the MD Faculty Liaison, Health Sciences alum for the HS Faculty Liaison)
- Alumni Affairs Faculty Liaison for the MD Program will support 20% FTE.
- Alumni Affairs Faculty Liaison for Health Sciences will support 15% FTE.
