Departments across the UNC School of Medicine are invited to apply for the Leadership Starts With Me Visiting Professorship, an initiative led by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development (FALD) to strengthen faculty leadership capacity, foster cross-department collaboration, and support professional growth across the institution.
This program provides departments with the opportunity to host a distinguished visiting professor whose expertise aligns with departmental leadership development goals, educational priorities, or emerging areas of academic innovation.
Program Benefits
The selected department will receive:
- A customized faculty development experience tailored to departmental priorities
- Up to $5,000 in support of honorarium, travel, and related event expenses
- Administrative support for event promotion, registration coordination, and event logistics
- Opportunities to engage faculty and trainees across departments and disciplines
Eligibility and Selection Considerations
All UNC School of Medicine departments are eligible to apply, with the exception of the prior year’s recipient. Preference will be given to proposals that:
- Identify a distinguished speaker with demonstrated expertise in faculty leadership or academic career development
- Clearly articulate learning objectives that align with faculty development
- Propose an interactive, high impact event designed to foster discussion, engagement, and collaboration
