The Selection Committee for the Norma Berryhill Distinguished Lecture invites nominations for the 2026 Lecturer. This prestigious honor recognizes a faculty member whose work has brought distinction to the UNC School of Medicine and who exemplifies the spirit of collegiality, mentorship, and excellence championed by Norma Berryhill.
We strongly encourage faculty to nominate a deserving colleague or self-nominate. Faculty at all career stages and across all missions of the School are encouraged to participate.
Nomination Guidelines
- Nominations may be submitted by individual faculty members or alumni.
- Departmental, divisional, or corporate nominations will not be accepted.
- Nomination Deadline: February 27, 2026
Eligibility
Nominees must:
- Be a fixed-term, tenure-track, or tenured faculty member at any rank within the UNC School of Medicine.
- Primary appointment must be School of Medicine.
- Be actively employed at the time of selection.
- Fully retired faculty and newly appointed faculty who have not yet arrived in Chapel Hill are not eligible.
Selection Criteria
Nominees will be evaluated holistically and may excel in one or multiple areas. Consider nominating individuals whose work reflects the following qualities:
- Contributions to the UNC School of Medicine: Evidence of exemplary accomplishments that enhance the stature, visibility, and mission of the School of Medicine across education, research, clinical care, service, or leadership.
- Contribution to a Sense of Community: Demonstrated commitment to the School of Medicine community, including meaningful service, mentorship of learners and colleagues, and collaboration across disciplines.
- Role Model Qualities: Exemplary figure for faculty, trainees, and students demonstrating integrity, professionalism, generosity of spirit, and a commitment to excellence.
How to Submit a Nomination
To submit a nomination, please complete the Qualtrics nomination form. Supporting materials (such as a curriculum vitae) are welcomed to be uploaded but not required at the time of submission. The selection committee will follow up with the nominees for an updated curriculum vitae.
