Jill Jemison, MBA, Associate Dean for IT and Chief Information Officer for the School of Medicine, has announced her departure to accept the role of CIO and Vice President of Integrated Technologies at Empire State University. Her final day at UNC will be March 13.

Throughout her tenure, Jill fostered a culture of collaboration and innovation within the School of Medicine. She played a key role in working to bridge firewall between the School of Medicine and UNC Health. Jill was pivotal in launching the nation’s first student AI and digital physicianship initiative, which expanded opportunities for partnership and advancement in medical education.

Additionally, Jill led the information technology teams through multiple significant projects, including enhancing the data environment, improving device management, expanding security measures, refining dev-ops processes, streamlining research onboarding, standardizing support services, and reinforcing the OMSE partnership. Additionally, she oversaw the rapid implementation of Copilot for administrative and educational use.

As we move forward, Ken Langley will serve as Interim CIO. Additional information regarding recruitment for the permanent position will be communicated when it becomes available.
