The UNC School of Medicine and Department of Health Sciences announce the retirement of Valerie (Val) Tan, Associate Chair for Administration, effective July 31.
Val has provided over 20 years of leadership in administration, finance, operations, and organization. She helped strengthen infrastructure supporting eight divisions and sixteen academic programs, contributing to education, research, and clinical missions.
Her service earned her major honors, including the Overton Leadership Award and the University Award for the Advancement of Women.
During her tenure, Val also served as interim ACA for dermatology and is currently acting fiscal and resource strategy lead for Office of Medical Student Education.
Throughout Val’s career at UNC, she has fostered a supportive environment, streamlined administrative processes, and advanced strategic initiatives for students and faculty. Please join us in thanking Val for her years of incredible service and congratulating her on her retirement.
