Welcome to the website for the Division of Neuroradiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! We are pleased that you are looking to embark on the adventure of Neuroradiology and hope that the information contained herein is helpful to you.
UNC has a long Neuroradiology tradition expanding nearly 50 years. Dr. Ernest Wood was our first Chair and Dr. James Scatliff, the second one. Dr. Castillo has been Division Chief for over 20 years. Dr. Castillo is Editor in Chief of the American Journal of Neuroradiology and President-elect of the American Society of Neuroradiology.
The Neuroradiology now counts with 6 attendings and 4 fellows. Interventional Neuroradiology has two attendings. Last year, we performed over 36,000 studies and our equipment is state of the art. Most work is done at the main Hospital campus, but also at our new outpatient facility. We also interpret images for several surrounding imaging facilities.
In 2013, our trainees and faculty presented 25 different projects at the annual meeting of ASNR. All of our fellows have obtained positions in very desirable jobs in the area or elsewhere and all have passed their CAQ examinations. We have now trained over 100 fellows and several chose to remain in academics.
