Cherie Kuzmiak, Chief of the Breast Imaging Division, earned her degree at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Science in Des Moines, Iowa. The recipient of numerous honors, her research interests include the interpretation and diagnostic analysis of digital mammograms, a comparison of full-field mammography and film-screen mammography and their diagnostic accuracy.
She is also an avid athlete and competes regularly in statewide Triathalons.

Educated at the University of Zagreb in Croatia, Dr. Dag Pavic has been a part of the UNC Breast Imaging team since 2001.
He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife and daughters.

Marcia Koomen graduated from the UNC School of Medicine and completed her residency at UNC. She served two years on the UNC Radiology faculty before working in private practice for 10 years, and then returned to UNC to join the Breast Imaging division in 2000.

Sheila Lee received her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 2002. She then completeted an Internal Medicine Internship at Duke University and subsequently completed her Residency and Fellowship at Duke University.
Sheila joined the Breast Imaging Division of UNC Radiology in 2010.

Dobrinka was born and raised in Bulgaria, an Eastern European country the size of North Carolina. She finished a Master’s degree program in philosophy at Sofia University-the oldest university of the country-and worked for almost two years as a social worker.
In the summer of 1995, Dobrinka immigrated to the United States and lived initially in Detroit, MI. In 1998, she moved to the Triangle where she found her home away from home. Dobrinka attended pre-medical classes at NCSU and medical school at UNC. She graduated from medical school in 2005, and completed an internship in internal medicine at Carillion Hospital, Roanoke VA. She recently completed her radiology residency at MUSC, Charleston SC and is happy to be back at UNC.

VARUN MAHAJAN

Varun Mahajan is a graduate from Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine, where he did he clinical training as a medical student at The Cleveland Clinic. He completed his internship at The Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, after which point he began his diagnostic radiology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. His research interests include the use of biofeedback/relaxation therapy to alleviate pain in patients undergoing breast-biopsies, and standardizing a breast-imaging model in underserved areas locally and globally.
