Angela Smith, MD, a professor in the Department of Urology, has been named Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development associate dean. She will begin her work in the role on Feb. 1.

Smith will be responsible for conceptualizing and implementing new, creative, and modernized programs, policies, and initiatives to improve the career trajectory and vitality of our School of Medicine faculty and staff. She also will serve as a valuable resource for faculty, staff and leaders who assist and support professional and career development, faculty affairs, and leadership development.

In addition to serving as a faculty member in the Department of Urology, Smith also serves the department as its vice chair for academic affairs. She also has served since 2019 as the director of urologic oncology for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. A quadruple Tar Heel, Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Medicine degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill.
