Anthony Passannante, MD, has been named assistant dean for admissions for the UNC School of Medicine. Passannante is a professor of anesthesiology and has recently served as interim chair of the Department of Anesthesiology. He will transition into this role on August 1, 2024.
A member of the Admissions Committee for over 20 years, as assistant dean for admissions, he will support engagement with and activities for potential students, work collaboratively with other leaders in the Offices of Medical Student Education to ensure smooth transition of accepted applicants into the School of Medicine, and coordinate with main campus colleagues and external partners in support of applicants, students and more.
Passannante earned his MD from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Syracuse and arrived at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1985, where he completed consecutive internal medicine and anesthesiology residencies, including a chief residency in anesthesiology. He joined the Department of Anesthesiology’s faculty in July 1991.
